GeoAccess to build database on physicians' credentials - Kansas City Business Journal:

Financial terms of the deal werenot disclosed, though GeoAccesas spokesman Jim Huggins said it is a multimillion-dollaer agreement. The database will be designed to eliminate the duplicate collection and updatingof physicians' information for healt h plans, hospitals and providers, the companyy said. Each provider will submit a singld application to a central database and authorize its use to meet the credentialing and directory needs of designated healtjh plans and hospitals participating inthe coalition. The databaser will gather and storew detailed education and practice profiles from morethan 600,00o providers, who can update their information online or by fax.
Participatinb health plans and hospitals automatically will receive notifications when providerxs updatetheir records. Huggins said the company will start a pilo t version of the database in Februaruy in Virginiaand Colorado. The company expects to start implementing the system in June and finish it inApril 2003. It is schedulede for implementation in Kansas and Missouri inFebruarhy 2003. Huggins said nearly everyt doctor in the Kansas City area is affiliatef with members ofthe coalition, which is based in The system will be in use in every statde except Florida and Arkansas, which have state-mandated systems in he said.
